Berlin Gets a Montréal Shortcut
BER has added a direct long-haul link to Canada as Air Canada begins flying between Berlin and Montréal. The route gives the German capital region a direct connection with Québec’s largest city and access to Air Canada’s Montréal hub. It also adds another North American option at an airport still building up its long-haul network.

The first flight departed BER on a Boeing 787-8, but Air Canada plans to switch the service to the Airbus A321XLR from 19 July. The aircraft has 182 seats, including 14 in Business Class and 168 in Economy Class. BER says this will be the first regular long-haul route to Germany using the new aircraft type.
Through Montréal, Berlin-area travellers can connect to Canadian cities and wider North American destinations without routing through Frankfurt, Munich or another European hub. The direct leg also makes Montréal easier for short city breaks, with access to Old Montréal, Mount Royal, the Plateau, Jean-Talon Market and summer festivals, while Québec City is reachable by train for a longer trip.
For Berlin, the route adds a cleaner way into Canada without relying on larger German hubs. For Montréal, it brings more direct access to one of Europe’s biggest city-break markets. The limited 2026 run makes it more useful for late-summer trips, while the longer 2027 season will show whether the service can become a regular part of BER’s long-haul offer.
