Berlin Airport Rail Changes Set to Affect May Travel Plans
Getting to Berlin Brandenburg Airport by train may take longer between 8 and 18 May 2026, as several S-Bahn and regional routes are affected. Some routes will not run as usual. Parts of the network will be replaced by buses, while others will run on revised timetables. Anyone travelling during this period should check the latest journey details before setting off, as trips may take longer or require changes.
S-Bahn lines S9 and S85 will run only between BER Airport and S Schönefeld during the disruption. Rail replacement buses will operate on affected sections, with two routes in place. Bus S9X will connect BER Airport with S Schöneweide, stopping only at S Adlershof, while Bus S9A will run between S Schönefeld and S Schöneweide, serving all intermediate stations.
Changes on S-Bahn and Regional Routes

- Replacement buses S9X and S9A covering key sections
- Possible night-time restrictions on S-Bahn services
- FEX, RE20, RB22, RB24 and RB32 may see timetable changes, diversions or cancellations
Regional and airport express services will continue to operate, though not always as scheduled. The FEX and RE20 lines are set to run together up to four times per hour until December 2026, but travellers may still face adjustments during the works. Some services may be diverted or cancelled, particularly at night, when additional restrictions could apply across the network.
The airport can still be reached by public transport during this period. Trains and replacement buses continue to run, although journeys may take longer than usual. People travelling to BER can still get to central Berlin and nearby areas, but should allow extra time, especially when using S-Bahn routes or travelling late at night.
