AirAsia will begin operating a new domestic route between Chiang Mai and Udon Thani on 1 December 2025. Flights will operate four times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The promotional fare begins at 999 baht, with booking available until 31 October 2025. The service is scheduled to continue through 28 March 2026, adding another route to Thailand’s domestic air network ahead of the busy holiday travel period.

The route will link northern and northeastern Thailand, providing an additional option for passengers who would otherwise need to transfer in Bangkok. Flights will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 seats. The planned schedule is as follows:

  • FD2010: Chiang Mai to Udon Thani, departure 10:10, arrival 11:15
  • FD2011: Udon Thani to Chiang Mai, departure 11:45, arrival 12:50

This timetable ensures a consistent link during the week.

“The year-end season is a prime time for travel across Thailand. Chiang Mai and Udon Thani are beloved destinations for both Thai and international travelers. By launching this new Chiang Mai–Udon Thani route, AirAsia offers a valuable, efficient option. We’ll operate Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 seats, four times weekly, helping boost tourism and connectivity in both regions."
Mr. Suraphan Homkachon, Chiang Mai Station Manager for AirAsia

Udon Thani is one of the largest cities in the Isaan region and functions as both a regional hub and a destination in its own right. It is located close to Ban Chiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its significant archaeological discoveries. The city also offers cultural landmarks, traditional markets, and connections to the Mekong River, which forms a natural boundary with Laos. This location makes it strategically important for cross-border travel and regional mobility.

Chiang Mai continues to be a popular spot in Thailand, attracting tourists from across the nation and internationally. Chiang Mai is known for its historic center, striking temples, lively night markets, and its position as a gateway to northern Thailand’s mountainous areas. Direct flights between Chiang Mai and Udon Thani significantly reduce travel time. This route makes it simple for travelers to explore both northern and northeastern regions in a single journey without requiring extra transfers.

This route exemplifies the continuous development occurring in Thailand’s domestic aviation industry. Airlines are progressively providing more direct point-to-point routes that avoid using Bangkok as the central hub. For passengers, this development increases flexibility and opens new possibilities for building itineraries that link different cultural and geographical parts of the country. For regional tourism, it represents another step toward strengthening connectivity between key urban centers in Thailand and neighboring countries such as Laos.
