Air India and Maldivian have announced a new interline partnership designed to simplify travel between India and the Maldives. The partnership connects Air India flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram with Maldivian’s domestic network, giving passengers one-ticket access to 16 islands via Malé. Checked bags are transferred automatically, removing the need for separate bookings and making onward travel through the Maldives far simpler than before.

The partnership enables Air India passengers to continue seamlessly onto Maldivian flights serving Hanimaadhoo, Kooddoo, Gan, Kaadedhdhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, Dharavandhoo, Maafaru, and Kadhdhoo, among other points. Maldivian, in turn, gains access to passengers arriving from India’s largest hubs and those transiting via Delhi and Mumbai from Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The cooperation strengthens long-standing links at a time when demand for access to smaller islands continues to rise.

Air India’s daily link between Delhi and Malé remains the quickest way to reach the Maldives from India’s capital. With the new partnership in place, the onward journey becomes far easier: Maldivian’s domestic routes connect travellers to smaller islands that previously required separate bookings or overnight stops. This gives travellers easier access to islands like Dharavandhoo, Kooddoo and Kulhudhuffushi, which often require extra arrangements when booked separately.

With the new interline structure in place, a range of lesser-visited Maldivian islands becomes easier to access on a single booking. Locations such as Dharavandhoo for manta-ray hotspots, Gan for historical sites linked to the former RAF base, Hanimaadhoo for the northern atolls, and Kooddoo for quieter resort areas now gain more predictable links. The arrangement also supports smoother travel for business activity centred on local aviation hubs and infrastructure projects.

“By combining Air India’s extensive global network with Maldivian’s reach across domestic points beyond Malé, guests can now discover the true diversity of the archipelago on a single itinerary."
Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer at Air India

The agreement changes how passengers move between the two countries, giving Air India a wider footprint and relying on Maldivian’s strength in domestic operations. With single-itinerary travel in place, reaching remote islands becomes more predictable, especially for those heading to smaller resorts or local communities that sit beyond the main tourist areas.
