With the half-term holiday approaching, ABTA – The Travel Association, is urging travelers to adhere to the existing hand luggage regulations for liquids and electronic devices at airport security.

Despite the planned introduction of new security scanners, which would eliminate the 100ml liquid limit and allow devices like laptops to remain in hand luggage, many UK and overseas airports will not meet the original deadline of June 1, 2024.

To prevent delays and confusion, ABTA recommends travelers follow the current guidelines: liquids must be in containers no larger than 100ml and placed in a single, transparent 20cm x 20cm plastic bag, with only one bag per person. Electronic devices should be removed from hand luggage during security screening.

Travelers are also advised to pay attention to airport signage and guidance on security procedures. ABTA's Director of Public Affairs, Luke Petherbridge, highlighted the importance of these measures, especially as popular European destinations like Spain, Greece, Turkey, and Portugal expect a significant influx of visitors.

To ensure a smooth travel experience, ABTA emphasizes the importance of sticking to the existing rules, stating that the new scanners, once fully operational, will streamline the process and enhance security. Until then, travelers should act as if no changes have been made.

By following these guidelines, holidaymakers can avoid unnecessary stress and delays, ensuring a pleasant start to their vacations. ABTA's message is clear: adhering to the current rules for liquids and laptops is the best approach for this half-term holiday.
