The UK is opening a new season for fishing enthusiasts and vacationers: starting August 2024, tourists will be able to try their hand at catching Atlantic bluefin tuna in English waters. On June 7, 2024, legislation came into force establishing permitting regimes for vessels to fish recreationally for Atlantic bluefin tuna in UK waters. The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) will open the application process for permits from June 10 to June 30, 2024. A quota of 16 tonnes of bluefin tuna has been allocated, allowing recreational fisheries to open.
