Wizz Air Broadens Budapest Access with New Summer Routes

In March 2025, Wizz Air announced new direct routes from Vilnius to Budapest (Budapest), Bilbao, Warsaw and Katowice. The routes, which will start during the summer season with the aim of reinforcing Budapest as a regional travel hub. Flights from Vilnius and Bilbao are set at two per week, while services from Warsaw and Katowice will complement the airline’s already growing Polish network.

The new additions respond to increasing demand for point-to-point connections within Europe. Passengers travelling from Lithuania, Spain, or Poland will now have quicker access to Hungary’s capital without the need for stopovers. This is particularly beneficial for leisure travellers and city break tourists looking for simple, efficient routes to Central Europe. The simplified journey structure also appeals to those seeking spontaneous or short-notice travel opportunities.

Budapest remains a magnet for visitors due to its combination of architectural charm, thermal baths, and a vibrant cultural calendar. New Hubs enable the travellers from neglected cities like Bilbao and Vilnius to make more easy visits to the Hungarian capital. With fewer logistical barriers, the city becomes a viable option for summer holidays, offering a mix of history, entertainment, and affordability in one destination.

Increased connectivity also brings competitive advantages for travellers. The added capacity may help stabilize or reduce fares on these routes, encouraging more travel across borders. It also supports regional integration, providing greater access to Hungary from countries with large outbound tourism markets.
