Wizz Air has officially opened its new base at Bratislava Airport, marking one of the biggest expansions in the airport’s history. The opening event on 14 November included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a symbolic aircraft-shaped cake, and a short performance by a local folklore group. The airline will gradually station four Airbus A321neo aircraft in Bratislava, each with 239 seats, to support a growing network of direct services.

With the launch of the base, new flights began immediately. The first departures headed to Barcelona and Lamezia Terme, followed by new links to Plovdiv and Varna. Additional services will roll out over the next weeks, including routes to Málaga and Bucharest. Wizz Air will also strengthen domestic connectivity by introducing daily flights, sometimes up to nine per week, between Bratislava and Košice.

More additions are set for December, when the airline will start operating direct flights to Athens and Oslo. Early 2026 will bring further growth, as the number of based aircraft rises to four and the total route list expands to 27. New destinations will include Chișinău, Larnaca, Berlin, Dortmund, Rome Fiumicino, Tirana, Ohrid, Pristina, Tel Aviv, Tuzla, and Warsaw Chopin. This is the largest number of scheduled routes ever offered from Bratislava by a single carrier.

With so many new cities on the map, passengers will have easier access to a wide mix of places: Mediterranean coastlines, cultural capitals, winter-sun spots, Balkan heritage sites, and well-connected European centres. The wider route list makes short trips easier to arrange, as many flights now run directly without the need to change planes at larger hubs.

The airport will also see more aircraft permanently based on site, which supports the growing number of departures. This increase in activity comes at a time when affordable travel is in high demand across the region, and both leisure and work-related journeys are expected to rise as a result. More flights leaving directly from Bratislava should also help reduce pressure on nearby airports during busy months.
