Venice announced the introduction of a tax on tourists
The city authorities of Venice have approved the prices for the entry fee to the UNESCO-listed city. According to the decision, tourists over the age of 14 will have to pay the fee. The entrance to the city will cost 5 euros (5.45 US dollars).
According to CNN, this innovation will last for 29 days between April and mid-July 2024. The fee will be paid by everyone who enters the city without booking an overnight stay from 8:30 to 16:00.
It is noted that tourists who plan to stay overnight will have to register through an online platform and receive a QR code confirming payment or release. Special kiosks will also be available in the city to pay the fee.
This applies to everyone who enters the city without booking an overnight stay (or leaving) from 8:30 to 16:00. The exceptions are residents born in Venice, students, passengers, children under 14, people with "certified disabilities" together with their guardians, and property owners who pay tax to the city. However, they also have to register and receive a QR code to confirm.
Guests of the city will be able to register online starting from January 16, 2024.
