A United Airlines Boeing 757 en route from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Denver International Airport (DEN) lost a tire following takeoff on July 8. This incident is part of a series of similar occurrences involving United Airlines planes, which has led to increased scrutiny from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

United Boeing 757 Loses a Tire

The Boeing 757, performing flight UA 1001, departed from LAX at 07:15 and was scheduled to land in Denver at 10:28. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft lost a tire but continued its flight to Denver, landing safely at 10:10. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the passengers or on the ground.

United Airlines has initiated an investigation into the incident, stating, "The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event." The aircraft involved is a nearly 30-year-old Boeing 757-200, registered as N14107, which has accumulated over 110,000 flight hours and 26,004 flight cycles since its delivery in October 1994.

Other Incidents

This tire loss is not an isolated incident for United Airlines this year. In March, a United Boeing 777 lost a tire after departing from San Francisco, leading to a diversion to Los Angeles after burning fuel for two hours. Additionally, a United Boeing 737 MAX rolled into the grass after landing at Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and another 737 MAX experienced a stuck rudder pedal upon landing at Newark Liberty International Airport following a flight from Nassau, Bahamas. Thankfully, these incidents also did not result in any injuries.

Under Regulatory Observation

Due to the frequency of these incidents, the FAA has placed United Airlines under closer scrutiny, examining the carrier's operational procedures, manuals, and facilities. United's Vice President for Corporate Safety, Sasha Johnson, acknowledged the need for the airline to reassess its practices, stating, "The incidents caused the airline to pause and evaluate whether there is anything we can and should do differently."

The FAA's ongoing investigation aims to ensure that United Airlines adheres to the highest safety standards and identifies any underlying issues contributing to these events. It is hoped that both United and the FAA will find a solution to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
