Unidentified man sneaks into Delhi airport runway and causes disturbance
On January 27, an unknown man entered the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. This caused concern and prompted the authorities to immediately tighten security as random passersby on the runway are a violation of all safety rules.
According to ANI, the unknown offender was spotted by the pilot of one of the planes, who was taxiing on the runway at 23:30. As visibility was poor, the intruder was not immediately detected.
"The Air India pilot informed air traffic controllers (ATC) that a man had passed in front of the plane while taxiing. ATC immediately alerted the Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC), which led to swift action by CISF, who arrested the intruder and handed him over to the local police," a senior airport official said.
The detainee was promptly handed over to law enforcement and taken into custody. The Delhi Police said the man who climbed the fence was a drug addict and hailed from Haryana's Nuh district.
The incident led to increased vigilance by security services. An internal commission has been set up and an investigation is underway.
"The authorities have taken the incident very seriously, classifying it as a massive security breach and taking extensive measures to address the problem," sources told the media.
