The best places in the United States to celebrate Christmas: top 9
A new survey by Cloudwards has revealed the most popular Christmas destinations of the US residents, and each of them offers incredible opportunities for recreation and travel.
The survey gathered data from dozens of countries to examine global trends, and examined data from every U.S. state to determine which cities Americans would most like to visit for the holidays. While the most popular international destination for Americans is Vienna, the survey also asked residents of each state to name their dream Christmas destination in the United States, Desert writes.
Chicago, Illinois
According to Cloudwards, seven states - Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, and Colorado - have named the Windy City as their top holiday destination. Chicago is known for its lavish festivities, including the famous German-style Christmas market, giant Christmas tree, and ice rink in Millennium Park.
Branson, Missouri
This may come as a surprise to some as it is not as big or famous as Chicago, but it was also the most popular destination for the seven states. Branson's official website promises a "real Christmas" with Christmas shows, a holiday theme park event, holiday markets, and a tour of over 700 Christmas trees.
Leavenworth, Washington
Next on the list, this Bavarian-themed city brings the feel of a European Christmas to the Pacific Northwest. Visit Leavenworth's Nutcracker Museum, go skiing at a nearby resort, or take in the activities in the downtown Christmas Village.
Helen, Georgia
Another Bavarian-style village, this town is fully lit up with Christmas lights during the holiday season. Watch the annual Christmas parade, take a carriage ride through the streets, or drive through the Georgia mountains past the city's picturesque views.
Boston, Massachusetts
This New England city offers lights and holiday markets like any other city on the list, but what really makes it stand out is the incredible selection of holiday performances you can see. Book your tickets to see The Nutcracker with the prestigious Boston Ballet or sing along at a Holiday Pops concert at Boston Symphony Hall.
New York, New York
The Big Apple is tied with Helen and Boston for the third most popular Christmas destination in the United States, thanks to its Christmas activities and destinations in popular spots like Times Square and Rockefeller Center.
New York City was also the third most popular destination in the world for non-U.S. travelers, with countries such as Bolivia, Guatemala, and Mexico among those who named it their top holiday destination.
Las Vegas, Nevada
It has been a favorite vacation destination for residents of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico due to its endless entertainment. While the Strip is always lit up, Las Vegas is decorated with even more lights when Santa comes to town, making it a great place to see holiday sights.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Two states have named Philadelphia the most popular Christmas destination, proving that you don't have to be an Eagles fan to enjoy this city during the holidays. The Christmas Village is one of the main attractions of the city, but you should also visit the Tinseltown Holiday Spectacular.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Along with Philly, where two states have decided to visit, Gatlinburg is another great choice for holiday travel. Known as the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this city offers incredible natural attractions and traditional holiday activities.
