Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has expanded its presence in the United States by launching a new nonstop flight from Copenhagen to Atlanta. The service began on June 17, adding to the airline's significant North American network. This new route aims to attract both business and leisure travelers, enhancing connectivity between Europe and the US.

SAS will operate this route using Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft, which offer three travel classes: SAS Business, SAS Plus, and SAS Go. The summer schedule includes daily flights, while the winter schedule offers five weekly flights. This addition makes Atlanta the ninth North American destination for SAS, which already serves several major US cities.

Paul Verhagen, SAS Chief Commercial Officer, expressed excitement about the new route, highlighting its potential to benefit both leisure and business travelers. He emphasized Atlanta's role as a major hub for business, housing numerous Fortune 500 companies, and its appeal to tourists looking to explore new destinations.

On September 1, 2024, SAS will join the SkyTeam alliance, further integrating its services with Delta Air Lines, which uses Atlanta as a primary hub. This partnership will enhance connectivity for SAS customers, providing seamless access to over 1,060 destinations across the SkyTeam network.

SAS has planned a detailed flight schedule for the Copenhagen-Atlanta service. The summer program will see daily flights with the Airbus A330, departing Copenhagen at 1:10 p.m. and arriving in Atlanta at 7 p.m. The return flight will leave Atlanta at 5:10 p.m., arriving in Copenhagen at 10:20 a.m. the next day. During the winter, the service will operate five times a week using the Airbus A350, with slight adjustments in the departure and arrival times.

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, known as the world's busiest airport, will benefit from this new service. The airport's extensive operations, primarily driven by Delta Air Lines, contribute significantly to the local economy, with an annual direct economic impact of $66 billion. The new SAS route is expected to further boost these figures.

By joining SkyTeam, SAS anticipates improved service offerings and connectivity for its passengers. Alain Bellemare, Delta’s EVP & President – International, noted that this collaboration would strengthen Delta's presence in Northern Europe, providing better access to destinations for both airlines' customers.

This new Copenhagen-Atlanta route underscores SAS’s commitment to expanding its footprint in North America, offering more choices and convenience to its passengers.
