In a significant development in the airline industry, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), the flag carrier of Scandinavia, has signed an Alliance Adherence Agreement with SkyTeam. This strategic move, set to take effect on September 1, 2024, marks SAS's official entry into the global airline alliance, promising enhanced travel experiences and connectivity for its customers.

Expanding Horizons with SAS and SkyTeam

The partnership heralds a new era of travel opportunities for SAS customers, who will now have seamless access to SkyTeam’s extensive global network. This includes over 1,060 destinations worldwide, some of which were previously unreachable through SAS. This expansion is particularly significant as it opens up new routes to areas such as Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, thus broadening the scope for international travel.

Enhanced Benefits for EuroBonus Members

The collaboration brings substantial perks to SAS's EuroBonus members. From the day SAS joins SkyTeam, all EuroBonus members will enjoy the privilege of earning and redeeming points across the alliance's network. Additionally, EuroBonus Gold and Diamond members will gain access to SkyPriority services and over 750 airport lounges worldwide, ensuring a more streamlined and comfortable travel experience.

A Commitment to Seamless Customer Service

SkyTeam and SAS have committed to ensuring a smooth transition for travelers. The integration of SAS into SkyTeam is not just about expanding geographic reach but also about enriching the customer experience with high-quality service and innovative solutions. According to Andrés Conesa, SkyTeam Chairman, this partnership aligns with SkyTeam’s vision of providing an integrated and responsible travel experience.

A Bright Future for SAS within SkyTeam

With SAS's strong reputation for reliability and quality, the airline is set to be a valuable addition to the SkyTeam alliance. Anko van der Werff, President and CEO of SAS, expressed enthusiasm about the future, noting that this milestone is just the beginning of a thrilling journey for SAS within the global aviation community.

SAS’s Sustainability Commitment

Aligning with SkyTeam's focus on sustainability, SAS continues to lead in eco-friendly aviation practices. The airline is actively working towards the industry’s goal of net zero CO2 emissions by 2050, using sustainable aviation fuels, investing in fuel-efficient aircraft, and collaborating on technological innovations.

This strategic alliance not only enhances the travel options and benefits for SAS customers but also strengthens the global aviation network, making international travel more accessible and enjoyable.
