Riverside Cabin Retreat to Open at Scottish Castle
Crossbasket Castle near Glasgow is preparing to open 12 riverside cabins and a new spa as part of its latest expansion. Set beside the River Calder, the cabins will give guests a private alternative to staying inside the historic estate’s main buildings. The project adds accommodation for couples, families and small groups while keeping visitors within walking distance of the castle’s restaurants and grounds.

Each cabin sleeps up to four guests, with a double bed, sofa bed and an enclosed balcony containing a freestanding copper bath. Breakfast will be served in Foveran’s atrium, while evening meals are available at Trocadero’s. The Four Angels Spa will include four treatment rooms, immersive showers, a sauna, steam room and heated loungers, using products sourced from the Isle of Harris.
Crossbasket sits in High Blantyre, about 20 minutes by car from Glasgow city centre, making it possible to combine a quiet riverside stay with time in the city. Nearby attractions include Bothwell Castle and the David Livingstone Birthplace, while Glasgow adds museums, music venues and restaurants. Guests can also reach Blantyre station by train from Glasgow Central in around 20 minutes.
The new cabins give guests a different way to stay at Crossbasket without booking a room inside the castle. Prices start at £295 including breakfast, and each unit sleeps up to four people, which may suit couples, families or small groups. With only 12 cabins available and the spa opening in the same season, autumn weekends are likely to book up first.
