The residents of Skelton were outraged by the closure of their beloved pub in the city
The Royal George pub in Skelton (UK) closed on January 1, 2024, just two weeks after celebrating its first anniversary.
The news of the closure shocked the locals. The owner expressed gratitude to customers and staff, stating: "It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. As of January 1, 2024, we will cease trading and officially close the doors of The Royal George Skelton for the last time. I would like to thank our wonderful staff, Heather, Ava, and Faye, for their dedication and all the fun days and nights we have had. We have left wonderful memories with our customers, who will be greatly missed," TeessideLive reports.
The reason for the closure has not yet been disclosed. Local residents were extremely upset that their favorite establishment would no longer be open.
The venue was reopened last December after extensive renovations. The new landlord stated at the time: "We're going to be a traditional village pub where locals can gather, have a chat, as they have for the last 50 years. The back room will be a bit more formal, we will serve fresh cocktails, and people will be able to come with their friends for a few drinks. They won't have to go to Redcar or Saltburn, and it will keep money in the village."
