Residents of Skelton are outraged by the closure of their favorite pub in the city
The Royal George pub in Skelton (UK) stopped operating on January 1, 2024, just two weeks after it celebrated its first anniversary.
The news of the closure stunned the locals. The owner thanked customers and staff and stated: "It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. As of January 1, 2024, we will cease trading and officially close the doors of The Royal George Skelton for the last time. I would like to thank our wonderful staff, Heather, Ava and Faye, for their dedication and all the fun days and nights we have had. We have left wonderful memories with our customers, who will be greatly missed," TeessideLive reports.
The reason for the closure has not yet been disclosed. Local residents were extremely outraged that their favorite place would no longer be open.
The establishment was reopened last December after extensive renovations. The new landlord said at the time: "We're going to be a traditional village pub where the locals can get together, come for a natter, as they have for the last 50 years. The back room will be a little more formal, we will serve fresh cocktails, people will be able to come to their friends to have a couple of drinks. They won't have to go to Redcar or Saltburn and it will keep money in the village."
