Ponce to Gain New Spark by Hilton Hotel Near Local Hotspots

A new hotel operating under the Spark by Hilton name is planned to open in Ponce by the end of 2025. Located near Mercedita International Airport and Highway 52, it will be the first property from this brand in the Caribbean and Latin America. From here, it’s easy to get on the road and reach other parts of the island without needing to zigzag through the usual tourist centers.
This hotel reflects a broader move toward expanding lodging in less central cities. In Ponce, travelers will have access to:
- A location outside resort areas but close to key urban routes
- Facilities suitable for overnight or short visits
- A breakfast area for morning meals
- An outdoor pool for basic leisure needs
- Meeting space that can be used for small gatherings or work-related stops
These features aim to support practical travel without added extras.

A few minutes from the hotel, La Guancha brings you straight to the sea, where rows of food stands mix with fishing spots and benches that fill up as the sun goes down. Nearby, the Complejo Deportivo de Ponce provides public sports courts and walking paths, often used by residents for exercise and informal games. You won’t need tickets or taxis. Just show up, walk around and take in the open-air buzz like the locals do.
Closer to the city center, Plaza del Mercado Isabel II functions as a public market, where early mornings bring stalls selling fruit, local snacks and fresh flowers. A few blocks away is Callejón Trujillo, a pedestrian alley known for its murals and quiet atmosphere, where visitors can stop at small cafés or simply walk through local street art without large crowds or noise.

The opening of this hotel may make southern Puerto Rico more accessible to travelers who want to explore beyond the usual resort zones. With accommodation located near everyday city spaces rather than tourist areas, the project supports slower-paced travel and encourages exploration of lesser-known urban life in Puerto Rico.
