Recent events have had a significant impact on the tourism industry. In 2023, travel demand increased, but not all attractions have yet recovered from the effects of the pandemic. Some of them will be closed in 2024.

Regardless of whether the closure is temporary or permanent, CNN Travel has published a list of places that will be closed to tourists in 2024.

Pompidou Centre, Paris

Despite the fact that the Parisian museum looks modern, it is already 60 years old. After the Olympic Games, the Pompidou went on vacation, i.e. for modernization. It will cost 282 million dollars. The museum will close its doors by 2030.

Splash Mountain, USA

One of the most famous attractions at Disneyland in Florida is being closed to reopen in an updated format called Tiana's Bayou Adventure, inspired by The Princess and the Frog.

Noma, Copenhagen

The restaurant's representative office has officially announced a temporary closure. The Copenhagen restaurant, which popularizes new Scandinavian cuisine, will serve its customers until 2024. In 2025, the restaurant will reopen in the format of an innovative test kitchen, where a new combination of flavours will be presented.

Phantom of the Opera, New York

After 35 years of intense work and almost 14 thousand performances, the iconic musical Phantom of the Opera made its "last stand" on the stage of New York in 2023. It has become the longest-running musical of all time on Broadway.

Pergamon Museum, Berlin

One of the most popular museums in Berlin and Germany in particular has already closed its doors to visitors in October 2023. All this for a large-scale reconstruction worth more than a billion euros. According to the plan, it should last for 14 years.

An iconic rock in Taiwan

In mid-December, a rock that resembled an elephant's trunk fell off and into the sea. It came as a shock to locals and travellers alike. It is not accessible to tourists to avoid accidents.

Park Hyatt, Tokyo

The first Western-style luxury hotel in the Japanese capita opened in 1994, Park Hyatt had a glamorous life. But for its 30th birthday, the hotel is closing in May 2024 to undergo modernization.

Notre Dame Cathedral

In 2019, the cathedral fell victim to a fire that caused its roof to collapse. Since then, local authorities have been actively engaged in its reconstruction. And in December 2024, it will become available to tourists again.

Smithsonian Castle, Washington, DC

The building was opened back in 1855, so it needs to be repaired and updated. The castle was closed in February 2023 for this purpose and it was reported that the reconstruction would "take five years". But despite the closure, various events are still organized for tourists.

Leonardo da Vinci Vineyard, Milan

For 50 years, this vineyard has been a popular tourist destination. But in 2022, it became private property. It was bought by French billionaire Bernard Arnault. Since then, he hasn't made any statement about when it will be possible to visit this place again.

Star Wars: Battlestar Galactica, Disney World

Despite a bright opening, the Star Wars-themed Galaxy Cruiser at Walt Disney World closed in 2023. As its representatives explain, it was a "business decision".
