"Overrated places": Australian tourist shares her experience of travelling to Paris and El Nido
Alex, 26, who goes by @alexinsummer on TikTok, is a travel content creator. She documents her travels on social media.
In one of her videos, the tourist visited popular vacation destinations. According to TikToker, some destinations are "expensive and overrated". Instead, she tells her subscribers about alternative travel. This was reported by dailymail.co.
Alex told her viewers, "These are the most overrated travel destinations. I'm sorry if this is ruining your travel plans, but I'm just here to help."
El Nido, Philippines
"The first destination is El Nido in the Philippines. It's beautiful, it has blue water, but it's crowded. It's also expensive," the tourist says.
But if you do go, she recommends exploring Coron over El Nido and is "very excited to go to Siargao." "I heard it's just the most incredible place, so I definitely want to go there."
One viewer asked, "How different are the prices compared to Thailand, like bike rentals, etc?" Alex replied, "Thailand is much cheaper!".
Another added, "Currently in Siargao and unfortunately I think it's a hugely overrated place." Meanwhile, another user wrote, "I personally liked El Nido a lot. The prices were okay too."
Paris, France
In the second video, Alex talks about the city of love, Paris. She told the audience. "Now I have actually lived in Paris. But it's not the beautiful, idyllic, romantic place that many people think it is. In winter it's gray, cold, and windy, and in summer it's really beautiful, but it's completely crowded. I would say that Paris, like London, will give you a completely different experience depending on how much money you have."
Alex also added that the best time to travel to Paris is September-October.
"It's not too cold, not too hot, not too crowded. It's really beautiful there, so definitely go, but don't be disappointed if it's not everything you've planned," the traveller says.
As for the statistics, the consumer champion asked more than 1,600 of its members to rate their experiences in 31 popular European cities to create the list.
Each place was rated out of five points based on seven criteria: food and drink, accommodation, cultural attractions and sights, shopping, ease of movement, lack of crowds, and value for money. The overall customer score was calculated based on overall satisfaction and likelihood to recommend. Paris ranks lowest in the table, scoring 79 percent in 12th place along with Athens, while Krakow, Poland and Valencia, Spain share the crown with their "impressive" 92 percent.
