Those planning to travel along the eastern shore of Lake Como should note a temporary suspension on the Lecco-Colico railway. From 00:01 on Friday, October 17, until 23:59 on Sunday, October 19, 2025, trains will not operate on this section due to infrastructure upgrades in preparation for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The upgrades aim to improve travel throughout the region, though visitors might need to modify plans to reach lakeside attractions.

Those using the route during this three-day closure should plan ahead and consider alternative options. Travelers should keep the following in mind:

  • All train services between Lecco-Colico will be suspended.
  • The route serves both local commuters and tourists exploring the Lake Como area.

Up-to-date train schedules are available from the following channels:

  • At railway stations,
  • On the Trenord official website,
  • Via the Trenord mobile app.

Passengers are encouraged to take different routes to maintain timely travel.

Travelers aiming to visit popular outdoor sites along the route may experience disruptions during the closure. Access to the Orrido di Bellano, a natural gorge carved by the Pioverna River, could become more difficult. The Abbazia di Piona, a lakeside abbey with panoramic views, and the Greenway del Lago di Como, a scenic walking path along the lake, may also require travelers to arrange alternative transportation during the suspension period. For those interested in outdoor sightseeing, these spots highlight the scenic charm of Lake Como.

Further north, access to other attractions might be impacted as well. The Sentiero del Viandante, a well-known hiking route on the eastern shore of Lake Como, might be less accessible while train services are suspended. The Castello di Vezio, perched above Varenna, and the Spiaggia di Lierna, a local lakeside beach, may require longer travel times or alternative transport methods. Travelers should anticipate extra planning for reaching these spots, especially during peak weekend visits.

Although this temporary closure may cause short-term inconvenience, it represents a crucial step toward improving rail connections for both locals and tourists ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics. For travelers, this means paying close attention to schedules and preparing trips in advance, while future improvements are expected to make rail travel across Lombardy smoother and more dependable. Those who check schedules in advance should be able to visit the region’s main outdoor and cultural spots without major delays.
