Non-stop Tenerife Flights Connect Canada Directly With Canary Islands

Air Canada has announced new winter routes for the 2026–27 season, including the only direct flights between North America and Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands. The airline plans to operate services from Toronto and Montréal using Airbus A321XLR aircraft designed for longer distances. The route removes the need to change planes in mainland Europe, offering a more straightforward option for travellers heading to the Atlantic archipelago during the winter season.

The Tenerife service will become the first non-stop connection linking Canada with the Canary Islands, a destination traditionally reached via European hubs such as Madrid, Lisbon or London. Flights will be operated with Airbus A321XLR aircraft configured for long-haul travel, including lie-flat seats in Business Class alongside Economy seating. The aircraft allows airlines to operate thinner transatlantic routes while maintaining comfort levels expected on longer journeys across the ocean.

Alongside Tenerife, Air Canada plans to introduce winter services to several leisure destinations, including Roatán in Honduras, Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, Mérida and Mazatlán in Mexico. The expanded schedule also includes additional departures from Vancouver, Calgary and Halifax. The schedule changes respond to steady interest in winter trips to coastal destinations, islands and cities with milder weather compared with colder conditions in Canada during the same period.

Direct flights to Tenerife can simplify winter travel to southern Europe by removing the need to change planes at mainland airports. The island offers volcanic scenery, protected natural areas and Atlantic coastlines used for hiking and cycling throughout the year. Travellers can also visit Teide National Park, home to Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak, where marked trails lead through lava fields to viewpoints above the ocean.

The Canada–Tenerife route introduces a direct flight between Canada and the Canary Islands, which are usually reached by changing planes at airports in mainland Europe during winter travel periods. Travelling without transfers can reduce overall journey time and avoid additional connections at major European hubs. For travellers, this creates a more direct option for reaching the Canary Islands when planning winter trips that include outdoor activities, coastal scenery and sightseeing.
