Norwegian Air Shuttle will soon launch a new route connecting Munich and the northern Norwegian city of Tromsø. Beginning October 26, 2025 and continuing through March 2026, flights will operate twice weekly every Thursday and Sunday using Boeing 737 aircraft. The new winter route connects southern Germany with the Arctic just as interest in polar travel reaches its seasonal high.

Tromsø, positioned over 300 kilometers above the Arctic Circle, is renowned for its striking natural beauty and cultural landmarks such as the Arctic Cathedral and polar museums. The new route enhances accessibility to this remote region, long admired for its aurora displays and dramatic landscapes. Travel to Tromsø used to involve several layovers, but the new direct flight from Munich cuts down the journey time for travelers from central Europe.

Travelers now have an easier way to reach the Arctic, with less complicated planning and shorter travel times. Whether chasing the Northern Lights or exploring Norway’s winter wilderness, passengers now have a straightforward option to start their journey from Munich. The route also serves spontaneous travelers looking for weekend escapes into unique, colder climates without straying too far from home.

This development is also likely to shift travel patterns within Europe. With more people seeking out less traditional destinations, Tromsø offers a compelling contrast to the usual alpine resorts. The flight’s scheduling makes short trips feasible while still allowing time for outdoor activities like snowshoeing, fjord cruises or even attending local cultural festivals under polar skies.

We’re pleased about the new Tromsø connection, which brings Bavaria and northern Norway closer and offers more winter travel opportunities in northern Europe.
Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers

More than just a logistical update, this route marks a subtle but important shift in how European travelers engage with winter travel. It shows a growing interest in lesser-known parts of Europe and a desire for more nature-driven travel experiences. For those eager to step outside the usual tourist path, this flight offers not just a destination but an invitation to rethink where winter holidays can take them.
