Explora Journeys has cancelled its winter 2026–2027 cruises in the Middle East due to the continuing conflict in the region, which has already disrupted ship movements for several weeks. The Explora II vessel, originally planned to operate in the Gulf, will instead sail only in the Mediterranean between November 2026 and March 2027. The company said the decision was taken early to provide clarity for future travel planning.

Previous itineraries had included ports in Bahrain, the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. These plans have now been replaced with a programme focused on the Western Mediterranean and parts of North Africa. Explora Journeys said the updated routes will highlight well-known coastal destinations alongside cultural stops across the region. Further itinerary details are expected to be confirmed by the end of March.

The cruise line is offering affected passengers alternative options where possible. Travellers who choose to rebook can receive a 10% discount until 30 April, together with an excursion credit of $500 per person. Explora I and Explora V are still expected to operate in the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea during the winter 2027–2028 season, with Explora V scheduled to debut in December 2027 using fuel cell technology.

Destinations included in the updated programme:

  • Casablanca, Morocco
  • Funchal, Madeira
  • Ibiza, Spain
  • Santorini, Greece
  • Capri, Italy
  • Cannes, France (New Year’s Eve sailings)

The revised routes focus on coastal cities known for historic architecture, island scenery and seasonal events. Winter departures may include opportunities to experience quieter periods in popular Mediterranean locations, as well as festive celebrations such as New Year’s Eve fireworks along the French Riviera. Ports in North Africa and southern Europe offer varied climates, local cuisine and cultural sites within relatively short sailing distances.

Several cruise lines have already changed their winter schedules because ships cannot operate in some parts of the Middle East as planned. As a result, more winter voyages are now being placed in the Mediterranean instead of Gulf routes. Early updates give people time to look at other options, reconsider travel dates if needed and choose itineraries that are easier to plan under current conditions.
