Marriott Hotels, together with a Greek firm, will open a resort hotel in Crete
Marriott International, in collaboration with the Greek conglomerate Vasilakis, announced an agreement to introduce its brand to Greece with the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa, scheduled to open in 2025.
The resort will feature 160 rooms, including suites and villas, each equipped with a private pool or jacuzzi. This strategic move places the company among a growing number of luxury hotel and resort brands seeking to benefit from Greece's thriving tourism industry, which now operates year-round, as reported by MSN.
The resort, sprawling across 100 acres of coastal landscape, aims to offer a blend of luxurious service and holistic wellness, according to Marriott International. SWOT Hospitality, known for managing luxury hotels in Greece, will serve as a third-party operator in collaboration with Vasilakis and Marriott International.
Jerome Briet, Marriott International's Chief Development Officer for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, stated, "Greece remains one of the most appealing destinations for travelers worldwide, and the signing of JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa reflects the ongoing demand for luxury accommodations across the country. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with Vasilakis SA and SWOT Hospitality to bring the brand's legacy of exceptional hospitality, thoughtful design, and enriching wellbeing to the island of Crete."
Designed by the renowned architectural firm Block722, the resort aims to blend modern elegance with authentic Cretan heritage. It will feature numerous serene wellness areas, gardens, and five dining outlets, including one specializing in Cretan cuisine.
Antonios Vasilakis, the owner of Vasilakis, expressed his excitement for the project, stating, "We are thrilled to announce the opening of Greece's first JW Marriott resort, marking a significant milestone for our company. Collaborating with SWOT Hospitality, known for their expertise and unwavering commitment, has already showcased the success that awaits this project".
