M25 Motorway to Close Again This Weekend - Full Diversion and Schedule

The AA has reported that several major roads in the South East are heavily congested as National Highways has closed the M25 between Junctions 10 and 11 in Surrey. This closure began at 9pm on Friday and will continue until 6am on Monday. It is the third of five planned weekend closures of the M25, which encircles London, as part of a £317 million project to improve Junction 10.

During the closure, motorway vehicles are being diverted onto A-roads. This is significantly affecting travelers heading to and from Heathrow and Gatwick, the UK's two busiest airports. Additionally, it is disrupting journeys to Dover for England football supporters traveling to Berlin for the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.

AA patrol of the year Chris Wood stated, "With many football fans changing their plans following England's victory over Holland, it's incredibly busy in and around London. We advise drivers to plan their journey accordingly, avoid the west side of the M25 if possible, and check ferry and tunnel operators' websites for updates before setting off. Ensure your vehicle is prepared by checking oil and coolant levels, tires, and make sure you have enough fuel or electric charge to cover the planned diversions."

Shutting the motorway this weekend is facilitating the construction of a new bridge near Junction 10. The project, due for completion in summer 2025, aims to increase the number of lanes at Junction 10, one of the UK's busiest and most dangerous motorway junctions. On weekends, between 10am and 9pm, the M25 typically sees between 4,000 and 6,000 vehicles per hour in each direction between Junctions 9 and 11. The final two weekend closures as part of this project will occur later this year.
