North London residents have won a fight to restore the cancelled bus service from Barnet to Potters Bar.
The 84B route was put into operation after Hertsmere Borough Council approved the plans at a council meeting, MyLondon reports.
The UK Cabinet of Ministers approved funding of £183,600 for the service, and Central Connect won the contract to run the route through Greater London and Hertfordshire. The new service began operating on September 4.
The council's funding will last for one year, but if the route proves popular, it could be extended with an additional £60,000. Labour Party councillor Cllr Oakley said the funding situation meant that Potters Bar residents would have to "use it or lose it".
The original Route 84 disappeared when Metroline cancelled the service in April 2022. A company spokesperson said COVID-19 had affected ridership and increased operating costs.
