ITA Airways has launched a new nonstop route linking Mauritius and Rome Fiumicino, expanding its Winter 2025–2026 schedule. The first flight landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on 8 November 2025 and was operated by an Airbus A330-900neo. A ceremony at the airport gathered officials, local partners, and journalists to mark the start of this new direct link between Italy and the island in the Indian Ocean.

The twice-weekly service strengthens travel and business links between the two countries. Flights depart Mauritius on Saturdays and Mondays and return from Rome on Fridays and Sundays. The route connects travellers to ITA Airways’ wide network through Rome Fiumicino, offering smooth transfers to destinations across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia.

“Each new airline and each new air route strengthen our tourism sector and creates opportunities for our people. Thanks to this direct connection, I am confident that more and more Italians will come to discover the magic of Mauritius - its pristine beaches, vibrant culture, rich cuisine, and above all, the warmth of our people. We look forward to working closely with ITA Airways, with our local tourism partners, and with Italian tourism professionals to promote this route and ensure its success.“
Richard Duval, Minister of Tourism

Mauritius’ Minister of Tourism, Richard Duval, described the route as a step towards closer cooperation in tourism, culture, and trade. ITA Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, Emiliana Limosani, noted that the service reflects the company’s goal to grow its long-haul network while offering comfort, Italian cuisine, and style on board. The Airbus A330-900neo has flat-bed seats in Business Class, a separate Premium Economy area, a wide Economy cabin with Wi-Fi and personal screens.

Travel to Mauritius is now faster and more convenient. Passengers save hours by avoiding lengthy transfers to reach the island's beaches, eco-friendly hotels, volcanic landscapes, and vibrant cities like Port Louis. This route offers a calmer trip, especially for winter travellers and honeymooners, and also strengthens trade and tourism between Europe and Africa.

This new route shows how direct flights can create real links between countries and cultures. With one journey, travellers can enjoy the elegance of Italy and the warmth of Mauritius, bringing two distant worlds a little closer. The route promises not only convenience but also a chance to rediscover the pleasure of long-distance travel done right. It highlights the rising demand for routes that combine cultural heritage with comfortable travel, proving that aviation still plays a vital role in linking distant places and communities.
