In England, residents are asked to help correct railway station names
Northern Trains has asked residents of Huddersfield in the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire, England, to help correct the mispronunciation of local station names in its announcements. Northern Trains provides rail services in the north of England.
The company said that the list included Slaithwaite, Burnside, Aspatria, Ashburys and Ilkeston. At some stations, residents sought to return the full names of places rather than the abbreviated versions that were adopted over time, Yorkshire Live writes.
Tricia Williams, chief operating officer of Northern, said, "I would like to thank everyone who sent in their feedback. We operate 467 stations across our network and some of them are pronounced very differently from the way they look in writing."
