The transport union RMT has successfully negotiated improved Olympic payments for Eurostar staff following intense discussions and a ballot for industrial action. This resolution means there is no longer any dispute between RMT and Eurostar's senior management.

Eurostar had initially proposed a shift-based payment system for employees working during the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. However, RMT rejected this proposal as divisive and insufficient. Instead, the union advocated for a one-off post-Olympic payment that would cover a broader range of roles, including Assistant Duty Control Managers, rostering/planning staff, and frontline contact center personnel.

As a result of these negotiations, Eurostar will now provide a one-off payment of at least £650 to eligible employees in the September 2024 payroll, replacing the previously proposed shift-based system. However, Head Office Support Function staff will not be included, and Eurostar will provide written clarification on their exclusion.

For travelers, this development is significant. The resolution of the dispute ensures that Eurostar services during the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games will run smoothly, with a well-compensated and motivated staff. This stability is crucial for those planning to travel to Paris for the Games, as it reduces the risk of disruptions that could have arisen from industrial action.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch emphasized that this improved offer is a fair reward for the hard work of the staff during the busy Olympic period. He also reaffirmed the union's commitment to securing the best possible conditions for all members, acknowledging their dedication and efforts.
