Honolulu International Airport Reef Runway to Temporarily Close for Repairs
The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced the temporary closure of Runway 8R/26L, also known as the reef runway, at Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) on Wednesday, February 7. The closure, scheduled from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is necessary for taxiway and runway repairs
During the closure, repair work will be conducted on the aging runway and nearby taxiways. While this closure is not planned for the entire day, it may impact some inbound and outbound traffic. HDOT has coordinated with airlines and other airport partners to minimize potential disruptions to travelers
Runway 8R/26L, also known as the reef runway, is one of four runways at HNL. The closure will allow crews to conduct landscaping along the runway and other necessary work. However, the airport's other runways, including 8L/26R, 4L/22R, and 4R/22L, will remain operational during this period
Passengers with flights departing or arriving at HNL are encouraged to check with their airline for more detailed information about the status of their flights. HDOT appreciates the public's patience and understanding while necessary repairs are conducted to ensure the safe operation of HNL
