Greater Anglia (GA) has initiated the installation of tables on its Stansted Express trains, starting this week, two months ahead of schedule. This upgrade, aimed at improving passenger experience, will see all trains equipped with tables by the end of 2025.

Currently, the Stansted Express trains feature fold-down seat-back tables but lack tables in the four-seat bays. Originally, it was anticipated that these trains would operate a limited number of services on the Great Eastern Main Line. However, increased service demands and feedback from passengers underscored the necessity for additional tables, particularly on intercity routes.

Responding to this need, GA partnered with Stadler, the train manufacturer, to install tables in all four-seat bays. This upgrade benefits passengers on both intercity services and Stansted Express routes, facilitating easier work, laptop use, and space for books and drinks.

The Stansted Express serves approximately 2.8 million passengers annually, providing a vital link between London and Stansted Airport. For travelers, this means a more comfortable and productive journey. The ability to work or relax with adequate table space enhances the overall travel experience. Whether for business travelers needing to use laptops or families wanting to enjoy a meal together, the new tables provide practical benefits that improve the quality of the journey.

The phased installation ensures that trains remain largely in service, maintaining GA's reputation for punctuality and reliability. As the project progresses, passengers will notice an increasing number of tables being fitted, significantly enhancing their travel comfort.

Martin Moran, Greater Anglia’s Commercial and Customer Service Director, highlighted the importance of this upgrade in meeting customer expectations. He emphasized that the early implementation directly addresses passenger feedback, aiming to improve service quality across all intercity routes.

This initiative reflects GA's commitment to continuous improvement and high service standards. By prioritizing customer needs, Greater Anglia enhances the travel experience, making journeys more convenient and enjoyable for all passengers. The tables will not only cater to business professionals but also to leisure travelers, offering a more pleasant and efficient travel environment. The new tables are set to significantly improve the travel experience for the millions of passengers who rely on the Stansted Express each year.
