Finnair to Run Up to Three Tokyo Flights a Day in Summer 2027
Finnair is adding more Helsinki–Tokyo flights for summer 2027 as demand for Japan continues to grow, expanding its Narita schedule while keeping its existing Haneda service. The move gives travellers more options during the peak summer period and strengthens Helsinki’s role as a connection point between Europe and Japan. The extra capacity is concentrated on Narita rather than a new Japanese destination.

- Exceptions: No extra Helsinki–Narita flight on 13 May or Narita–Helsinki flight on 14 May.
- Japan network: Up to 32 weekly flights at peak, compared with 28 weekly flights in summer 2026.
The added Narita flight is particularly useful for travellers starting elsewhere in Europe and changing planes in Helsinki. All gates at Helsinki Airport are in one terminal, and Finnair lists minimum same-ticket connection times of 40 minutes from Schengen to non-Schengen and 45 minutes in the opposite direction. Checked baggage tagged to the final destination is transferred automatically, making the extra Tokyo frequency easier to use as part of a through journey.
Narita is farther from central Tokyo than Haneda, so the airport can matter when choosing between Finnair’s services. The Narita Express reaches Tokyo Station in as little as 53 minutes and continues directly to Shibuya, Shinjuku and Yokohama. Haneda sits about 19km from central Tokyo, with Tokyo Station around 30 minutes away by rail and Yokohama also accessible in roughly 30 minutes.
The extra Narita flights mainly give Europe–Japan travellers more choice of departure times during the busiest part of the summer schedule. Checking the airport code matters before booking, because NRT and HND have different locations and onward links. Finnair also keeps year-round direct services to Osaka, while Nagoya remains a summer route for travellers whose plans do not centre on Tokyo.
