Finnair Expands European Range With New Embraer Aircraft
Finnair will introduce Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on its European routes starting in autumn 2027. The aircraft is designed for short and medium-haul flights and will gradually become part of the airline’s fleet. It will have 134 seats and a cabin layout similar to Finnair’s current Embraer planes, keeping the two-by-two seating format while offering slightly more space than earlier aircraft used on regional services.
According to the airline, the new aircraft will include practical features aimed at improving onboard comfort. Each seat will have a USB charging port, and passengers will be able to access Wi-Fi during the flight. The overhead storage compartments will be larger, making it easier to place carry-on baggage. The aircraft will also include three lavatories, one more than on the Embraer models currently used by the airline.

The extended range of the Embraer E195-E2 allows the aircraft to operate across Finnair’s European network, including routes covering Portugal, Spain and Greece. This creates more flexibility in planning flights across the continent and supports the airline’s plans to develop its short-haul schedule. Finnair has ordered 18 aircraft of this type as part of a wider fleet renewal programme.
The aircraft’s longer range allows Finnair to operate flights to more destinations within Europe, including Portugal, Spain and Greece. This gives the airline more options when assigning aircraft to different routes. The aircraft uses less fuel per passenger than earlier Embraer models and results in lower CO₂ emissions on European routes.
