Etihad has reduced summer ticket prices by up to 50% on several long-haul routes from the UK, following a drop in demand linked to the conflict in the Middle East. Return economy fares between London and Sydney via Abu Dhabi are now available from £688 for May and June. The lower prices follow a drop in demand for some long-distance routes after recent international tensions influenced travel plans.

Price differences are notable when compared with other airlines on similar routes. Flights between London and Sydney on comparable dates with British Airways, connecting via Singapore, are priced at around £1,850 in economy. Etihad is also offering lower fares to destinations such as the Maldives, Tokyo and Bangkok. Return flights to the Maldives start from £581, significantly below typical prices seen for the same period.

Demand for long-haul travel has shifted since the conflict involving Iran began earlier this year, with some travellers reconsidering routes that involve the Middle East. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office currently advises against all but essential travel to the United Arab Emirates. Travel insurance policies may also be affected if trips are booked against official government advice, making travellers more cautious when planning journeys.

Lower ticket prices make long-distance destinations easier to afford, especially on routes that usually require a higher budget. Trips to cities such as Tokyo, Sydney and Singapore may become more affordable for summer travel. Island destinations such as the Maldives may also become more affordable options for long-distance trips. Reduced fares can also allow travellers to consider longer stays or include more than one destination within the Asia-Pacific region in a single trip.

Falling airfares show that prices on long-distance routes can change quickly when demand shifts. Even when fares drop, it remains important to check official travel advice and insurance conditions linked to the destination. Looking at current prices together with government guidance can help travellers decide whether discounted flights suit their plans. It can also help them assess whether the timing of the trip feels appropriate.
