Emirates and Dilmah Tea Introduce Tea Pairing for International Tea Day
On May 21, in honor of International Tea Day, Emirates and their long-time partner Dilmah Tea announced a new initiative to enhance the onboard dining experience through expert tea and food pairings. This collaboration aims to bring a refined culinary experience to passengers in-flight, in lounges, and at home.
The concept of tea pairing involves matching the flavors of different teas with specific foods to enhance the overall sensory experience. Emirates, which serves over 33 million cups of tea annually, is leveraging its selection of 12 gourmet tea blends to offer passengers unique pairing opportunities.
Dilmah’s Breakfast Tea, a full-bodied Ceylon tea, is paired with breakfast dishes such as scrambled eggs and cheese omelets, available in various classes from First to Economy. Natural Green Tea is recommended with salads and seafood, while Moroccan Mint Green Tea complements desserts like citrus tarts and the traditional First Class caviar.
For caffeine-free options, Dilmah’s Pure Chamomile Flowers pairs well with dishes like apple pie and roast turkey. Additionally, the Earl Grey Tea by Dilmah, known for its rich bergamot flavor, is matched with spicy foods and dark chocolate desserts.
Emirates has also introduced its bespoke Emirates Signature Tea, designed to pair with dishes featuring nuts, leafy vegetables, and chocolate desserts, available in First Class and lounges.
The airline's cabin crew receive specialized training from the Dilmah School of Tea to provide passengers with informed recommendations on tea and food pairings. This training includes understanding the sustainable practices behind Dilmah’s tea production and mastering brewing techniques.
Emirates’ partnership with Dilmah Tea, a Sri Lankan company known for its ethical production methods, highlights the airline's commitment to offering a high-quality dining experience. This initiative is part of Emirates’ ongoing efforts to enhance passenger satisfaction and culinary offerings onboard.
