Direct Link Between Portugal and LA Expends Travel Options

On 16 May, TAP Air Portugal began operating nonstop flights between Lisbon and Los Angeles, establishing a direct air connection between Portugal and Southern California. The route is served by an Airbus A330-900 three times a week, with an additional Saturday departure scheduled from 26 May. Return flights from Los Angeles land in Lisbon the following day, offering a shorter flight time eastbound.
The new service expands TAP’s North American network to eight destinations from Lisbon and introduces its westernmost US route. The schedule allows travelers to avoid transfers through East Coast airports, which were previously required for reaching California. According to the airline, round-trip fares start from 679 euros. Flights depart Lisbon in the morning and arrive in Los Angeles in the early afternoon.
The new connection to Los Angeles opens access to a variety of cultural and natural sites across the city. Griffith Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States, features scenic trails and the well-known Griffith Observatory. The Getty Center offers panoramic views and a major art collection. Coastal areas such as Santa Monica and Venice Beach remain popular, while landmarks like the Hollywood Walk of Fame reflect the city's entertainment heritage.
Lisbon itself has several sites that reflect the city’s layered history. In Lisbon’s Belém area, the Jerónimos Monastery tells stories of when ships left for far-off places and sea travel shaped the country’s future. Alfama feels like a part of the city where time moves slowly, with steep alleys, modest homes, and views that haven’t changed much in years.

This new connection reflects how airlines are gradually moving away from multi-stop routes and putting more focus on direct, long-distance flights. Instead of passing through several airports, passengers can now take a more straightforward path between Europe and the US West Coast. The change makes long-haul travel more predictable and helps keep plans on track. For those working with limited time, fewer steps along the way can make the entire trip less stressful.
