Direct Athens Flights Expand Options from Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca and Athens are now connected by direct flights, the first regular nonstop service between Transylvania and the Greek capital. The service began on 5 April 2026 and operates twice weekly throughout the year. With a flight time of around two hours, the route offers faster access to one of Europe’s most visited cultural destinations and an important hub for travel across Greece.
AnimaWings will add more summer routes from Cluj-Napoca to Thessaloniki and Zakynthos. Flights to Thessaloniki are planned to begin on 2 June 2026 with two departures per week, while the Zakynthos service is scheduled to start on 4 June with one weekly flight. These seasonal routes increase direct access from north-western Romania to well-known destinations in Greece during the busy summer period.
All flights are operated using Airbus A220-300 aircraft configured with 148 economy seats. Tickets include seat selection, an 8 kg cabin bag and a small personal item. The timetable for the Athens route is designed for morning departures on Thursdays and Sundays, allowing same-day onward travel through Athens to other parts of Greece, including destinations across the Aegean region.

The new direct route increases the number of travel options available from Cluj-Napoca to southern Europe. Flying straight to Athens shortens the journey and removes the need to change planes in other cities. Additional connections through the Greek capital create more possibilities for combining several destinations in one trip, supporting both holiday travel and business visits between Romania and Greece during different seasons of the year.
