Condor has launched a new seasonal service linking Frankfurt with Haikou, via Bangkok, marking its first operation to Haikou Meilan International Airport. The inaugural flight took place on 6 February 2026. The route is designed to meet peak winter demand and strengthens the airline’s long-haul presence in China during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

The seasonal service operates twice weekly until 9 March 2026. Departures from Frankfurt take place on Sundays and Thursdays, with a stop in Bangkok before continuing to Haikou, where flights arrive on Mondays and Fridays. The route runs during the Chinese New Year travel period, which regularly brings increased passenger traffic on air links between Europe and China across both leisure and business travel.

With the addition of Haikou, Condor increases its presence in China’s island province of Hainan. The new service sits alongside existing flights to Sanya, which have been in operation since July 2025. Taken together, the two routes widen access to southern China and add capacity during a limited seasonal period when demand is particularly concentrated.

What becomes easier to reach

  • Haikou’s historic Old Town and coastal promenades
  • Hainan’s beach resorts and golf courses
  • Volcanic parks and tropical nature reserves
  • Ferry links and domestic flights across southern China

These connections make it simpler to combine island stays with onward travel within the region, without relying solely on major mainland hubs.

This short-term route shows how airlines are adjusting networks around clearly defined peaks rather than long-term expansion. The Frankfurt–Haikou service widens options during a busy winter window, when long-haul availability is often tight. It also points to a gradual shift in European route planning, where regional Chinese gateways such as Haikou are no longer treated as niche, but as viable seasonal entry points.
