The Lowline Hotel has opened on King Street in central Charleston, replacing the former Hyatt Place with a redesigned 197-room stay. The property puts guests within walking distance of the city’s restaurants, cocktail bars, independent shops, galleries and historic sights. Its arrival also marks the first South Carolina opening for Hyatt’s JdV collection, which focuses on independently styled hotels shaped by their neighbourhoods.

Inside Charleston’s Latest Hotel Opening

  • Hotel: The Lowline Hotel
  • Brand: JdV by Hyatt
  • Address: 560 King Street, Charleston, South Carolina
  • Status: Open and accepting bookings
  • Rooms: 197
  • Previous property: Hyatt Place Charleston Historic District
  • Owner partner: Highline Hospitality Partners
  • Facilities: Leeward Restaurant and Patio, coffee shop, rooftop taproom, indoor pool, fitness centre, valet parking and nearly 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space

Ealain Studio has shaped the interiors around Charleston’s maritime past, using navy tones, warm oak, brass details and forms inspired by ships, courtyards and hidden gardens. Guest rooms include custom headboards featuring sandhill cranes and marble beverage cabinets. The hotel also houses Leeward Restaurant and Patio, Lowline Spirited Coffee & Provisions, a private golf simulator room and Pour Taproom overlooking the Charleston skyline.

The location gives guests an easy starting point for exploring King Street, Charleston City Market and the wider historic district on foot. A longer walk can take in Rainbow Row, Waterfront Park and the Battery, while nearby galleries, independent shops and restaurants fill the route between major sights. That combination makes it easier to plan a city break without organising transport for every meal, museum visit or evening out.

The opening adds a central hotel choice for visitors who prefer to build their stay around walking rather than daily car journeys. Its strongest feature is not a single amenity but the way the address brings sightseeing, dining and nightlife into the same part of town. Reworking an existing hotel also gives King Street a more distinctive stay without placing another large building in Charleston’s historic centre.
