Berlin Airport Rail Trips Face Summer Changes

Passengers travelling to or from Berlin Brandenburg Airport should allow extra time this summer as several public transport changes affect airport rail links. From 12 June at 22:00 until 6 July at 01:30, S-Bahn lines S9 and S85 will run only between BER Airport and S Altglienicke, with replacement buses covering the rest of the route.
Replacement buses to know
The S-Bahn will run two bus services during the closure:
- S9X: BER Airport to S Baumschulenweg, stopping only at S Adlershof and S Schöneweide
- S9A: S Grünbergallee to S Baumschulenweg, stopping at all S-Bahn stations
BER advises passengers to check current travel times and replacement services through the VBB journey planner before travelling.
Regional rail will also see changes. Between 12 and 28 June, selected RB32 trains will be diverted between Hohenschönhausen and BER Airport, missing Lichtenberg, Ostkreuz and Schöneweide. FEX, RE20, RB22, RB24 and RB32 may also face timetable changes, partial cancellations or diversions. Until December 2026, FEX and RE20 are planned to offer four services per hour together.
The disruption matters most for visitors relying on public transport after landing or heading to an early flight. Journeys into central Berlin, Adlershof, Schöneweide, Ostkreuz or the eastern districts may need extra time or a different route. Trips to museums, hotels, concerts, business meetings or onward trains could still work smoothly, but only if the airport transfer is checked in advance.
A separate rail closure will also affect Berlin travel beyond the airport. From 14 June until 12 December 2026, the Stadtbahn section between Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof will close to regional and long-distance trains for maintenance. S-Bahn trains are not part of that closure, but anyone using BER during the works should check the VBB journey planner before setting off.
