Airplane passenger jokingly called himself a Taliban: now he faces a €95,000 fine.
In Britain, an airplane passenger jokingly called himself a Taliban, and now he will have to pay a hefty fine for his supposedly innocent joke.
The incident occurred 1.5 years ago, but details have recently been made public. In July 2022, 18-year-old British traveler Aditya Verma decided to play a prank on his friends and sent a photo to his friends on Snapchat before his flight. He was wearing a hat and sunglasses, and in the caption to the photo, Verma called himself a member of the Taliban and said he would blow up the plane, the Daily Mail reports.
The EasyJet flight was en route from London to the Spanish island of Menorca. As a result, the message was intercepted by the British intelligence services, who contacted their Spanish counterparts, and the latter sent two Royal Air Force fighters to escort them.
Now the Spanish prosecutor's office is demanding that the student pay about €95 thousand in compensation for the military aircraft.
