A passenger on the plane jokingly called himself a Taliban: now he faces a fine of €95,000
In Britain, an airplane passenger jokingly referred to himself as a Taliban member, and now he will have to pay a hefty fine for his supposedly innocent joke.
The incident occurred 1.5 years ago, but details have recently been disclosed. In July 2022, 18-year-old British traveler Aditya Verma decided to play a prank on his friends and sent a photo to them on Snapchat before his flight. He was wearing a hat and sunglasses, and in the caption of the photo, Verma identified himself as a member of the Taliban and jokingly stated he would blow up the plane, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The EasyJet flight was en route from London to the Spanish island of Menorca. Consequently, the message was intercepted by British intelligence services, who contacted their Spanish counterparts. The latter then dispatched two Royal Air Force fighters to escort the flight.
Now, the Spanish prosecutor's office is demanding that the student pay approximately €95,000 in compensation for the military aircraft
