A new train will be launched between Italy and the south of France
Two more of Europe's most popular destinations will be connected by train as FS Treni Turistici Italiani Passenger Hub aims to create more tourist train routes following the success of the Paris-Lyon-Milan line, which was launched in 2021.
The company announced at a conference last month that it wants to introduce two tourist rail routes between Italy and France's Côte d'Azur, which could be launched as early as this summer, France 3 reports.
According to Travel Off Path, the proposed routes will definitely start from Milan, and there will potentially be daily round trips from the northern Italian city all the way to Marseille, with possible stops in Monaco and Nice.
Luigi Cantamessa, CEO of FS Treni Turistici Italiani (which is a new company set up to provide sustainable rail travel for tourists), said: "[The new routes] will not be high-speed, but intercity. This is likely to be operational in the summer of 2024 with one Milan-Marseille round trip per day."
Milan and Nice are about 315 km apart, and Marseille is about 517 km from the Italian city. Given that they are not that far away, it makes sense to create a service that connects them.
As TravelWise reported earlier, the 10 largest countries in the world without trains were named.
