A New InterContinental Is Coming to the Algarve
IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed InterContinental Vilamoura – Algarve, bringing another high-end hotel name to one of Portugal’s best-known resort areas. The project is planned with HDP Algarve SA and will see an existing Vilamoura property move under the InterContinental brand after a full renovation. It marks the brand’s fourth property in Portugal and adds fresh attention to the Algarve.

IHG says the hotel will sit close to Vilamoura Marina, Praia de Vilamoura and several well-known golf courses. The group expects it to appeal to international holidaymakers as well as the premium meetings and events market. The company also points to strong demand in Portugal, where its portfolio already includes InterContinental, Hotel Indigo, Kimpton and Six Senses properties across resort and city locations.
The opening should make Vilamoura a stronger base for Algarve trips built around the marina, the beach and golf. Guests will be close to restaurants, boat trips, coastal walks and resort facilities, while the wider region remains useful for day plans along the coast. It also gives business groups another option in a destination already used for leisure, conferences and events.
The hotel is still some way off, so travellers should not treat every detail as final yet. Rates, booking dates and the full facilities list may only become clear closer to opening. Still, the signing gives Vilamoura another strong hotel name and a useful option for Algarve stays near the marina, beach and golf courses.
